I've never liked comics much, but wow...
In 1966, before the founding of the Black Panther party, Stan Lee and co made the character ‘The Black Panther’, who had recently arrived in NYC to hook up with the likes of X-Men, Avengers etc, after growing up as leader of his nation Wakanda (which is the most advanced of Marvel’s collection of fictional African nations - which I also knew nothing about before…). Apparantly Wesley Snipes has been trying to make a film about him for aages now, but Chiwetel Ejiofor is likely to do it instead, which is pretty cool as I watched Dirty Pretty Things tonight. I’m not sure how empowering or exploitative this is, but it’s pretty cool how he defeats the KKK and apartheid in 1 issue alone!
